I am AWESOME!! Survey :: Neal Clark

Neal Clark isn’t as old as his wife!  He is the second son of John Clark & Donna Orton.

His family lived in Tooele, Utah when he was born.  They moved to Alaska where he loved every minute, and then to Bountiful, Utah.

He attended Viewmont high school and one day he was walking down the hall.  A girl by the name of Chris caught his attention and, not looking where he was going, he ran right into a drinking fountain!  Four and a half years later she became his wife.  He is the father of three sons and four daughters: Topher, Natalie, Steve, Joey, Kaylie, Mindie, & Anne.

He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in physics and also studied astronomy.  He says physics “opened his eyes to how the world works.”  He works as a physicist/engineer and designs computer chips/circuits that protect your electronics (like your cell phone) from being destroyed by static electricity.  He works with people from all over the world.  Neal looks forward to retiring this year!

His favorite books are The Discoverers & The Creators.  He says, “There’s more to learn in these two books than any other books I’ve read.”  His favorite place to visit is Paris, France.  He said, “It is the most amazing city he has visited.”  He wants to visit Egypt.  Favorite food is popcorn.  Favorite movies are The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit movies.

When he grows up he wants to be “wise”.  He loves playing with his 18 grandkids and watching movies.  His pet peeve is people who interrupt his movie!  His favorite thing to do with family is to play Ooga-booga-ooga-booga-look!  He is learning to play the piano.

Favorite adventures include sky diving, scuba diving, 700 ft deep submarine dive; he was an airplane pilot; cruised through the Panama Canal; visited four continents including major cities such as Paris, Rome, London, Sydney, and Hobbiton; has seen a solar eclipse and space shuttle launch.

He got to do all these things because he worked hard to get a good education and was able to get a great job.  Now he and Chris are missionaries for employment and education and are trying to help other people do the same.

Neal is afraid of people who don’t wash their hands__especially after using the restroom!

An embarrassing experience happened one Sunday just before church started.  He was the bishop and was on the stand in the chapel getting ready to begin Sacrament meeting when his pants split open in back!

One of his best qualities is being able to remember facts that he reads in books.  He is always reading and usually has several books at one time that he is studying.

Something that most people don’t know about him is that he was once caught with a can of beer in his cooler at a scout campout!

Neal was an amazing teenager.  He played the saxophone in a band called The Blue Diamonds; he also sang with the group and they played at dances, at a restaurant, and performed in a talent show on television.  His high school English teacher called him “the computer who wore tennis shoes”; he made a 90 yard touchdown on the Viewmont football team; he pole vaulted; he was a Sterling Scholar nominee and went to the televised competition.

He has a great sense of humor and the most contagious laugh ever!  Make him laugh!

I am AWESOME!! Survey :: Chris Clark

My name is Christine Poulson Clark, but most people call me Chris, Mom, or Grami.  I was born in Salt Lake City, I’m 61 years young, and my parents were Jack & JoAnn Poulson.  I met Neal in seminary class at Viewmont High School in Bountiful Utah where I grew up.  We married in 1971 and now have seven children & 18 grandchildren.

I would describe myself as generally quiet, calm, too serious, want to please others, and love to be busy.

I haven’t graduated from college but I have a 4.0 GPA due to the one computer class I took.  My other memorable college experience was being the guinea pig in Neal’s science class at Weber College when they demonstrated the Van de Graaff generator.  I was chosen to put my hands on it because I had long curly hair which performed very well for the class by standing out in all directions.

I am currently serving a mission with Neal in Flagstaff where we live, helping people with employment and education.  It has helped me feel even more grateful for the great blessings I have.

My favorite food in winter is pie/cheesecake (any kind) and ice cream is my favorite summer food (lots of mix-ins); favorite book is Les Misérables; favorite movie (I tend to sleep through movies) might be Anne of Green Gables; favorite song is Longer by Dan Fogleberg, but favorite music is anything played on the piano by Neal, Natalie, Kaylie, or Mindie.  I love hiking & singing around campfires.  My pet peeve is litter bugs.

My favorite place I’ve visited is so hard to say.  Neal has taken me all over the world on some amazing adventures.  I loved New Zealand (the north) and would like to visit the South Island.  Adventures include visiting amazing cities in Europe; parasailing, snorkeling, & swimming with stingrays in the Caribbean; ropes course and zip line in the jungle; hiking on a glacier & fishing in Alaska; watching a space shuttle launch; and viewing a total solar eclipse. (Wow! Don’t you wish you were me!)

My occupation for the past 39 years has been mom.  My dream job & what I want to be when I grow up is a landscape designer.  I enjoy gardening, family history stories, hiking with grandkids and Neal, and sewing baby blessing dresses for my granddaughters.  My talent is being able to fold my tongue in half backwards. Can you?

I’m afraid of bears (camped one night in Yellowstone) & fires (my house burned down, age 17, Christmas night).

I remember when panty hose were invented!  When I was in high school, girls had to wear dresses to school and we held up our “nylons” with girdles.  Panty hose seemed like a nice alternative, but my skinny body didn’t fit well with them and I remember walking through the halls in high school, stopping at every restroom to pull up my droopy stockings.  Then they came out with a new brand called “Little Prunes”.  They were all wrinkled up and Grandma Donna bought the first pair that I saw.  She opened them up in front of us and giggled her head off as she held them out for us to see.  She is always good for a laugh!
